Vicksburg’s Economic Future is Bright
Published 5:00 am Friday, March 28, 2025
Vicksburg and Warren County have certainly had a rather splendid week, if you ask me. The Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership has announced not one, but two rather significant developments in the past five days. These announcements, altogether, promise investments exceeding $435 million and the creation of over 60 new job opportunities. For a town like Vicksburg, this is no small beer!
Ergon Refining’s Expansion
The announcement on Wednesday brought ecstatic news. Ergon Refining will be expanding into gasoline production. This strategic move is anticipated to spur more than $400 million in local investments while creating 20 new jobs. Small, it may seem initially, but the cumulative effect of 20 well-paying jobs can indeed be substantial for our community. Remarkable, isn’t it? Ergon has morphed from a fledgling start-up in Jackson to its current stature within a mere 70-year span.
Terral Riverservice’s Vicksburg Initiative
But there’s more to add to the cheer. In today’s edition of The Post, it was unveiled that Terral Riverservice is making hefty investments as well. Vicksburg Shipyard, their subsidiary, is securing $35.6 million in investments and plans to unveil 44 new jobs by acquiring assets and land at the Port of Vicksburg. Imagine the ripple effects this will have on our local economy!
The Port of Vicksburg’s Grand Design
Indeed, the Port of Vicksburg is set to expand south of Interstate 20. Work on the entrances will soon commence, following necessary environmental assessments. This venture possesses the potential to morph our city and county in manners most locales can only aspire to. This promising development is a testament to the well-laid plans of myriad partners, spanning the city, county, and several dedicated economic entities. Such collaborative spirit, I must say, is rather uncommon nowadays!
Even amidst periods when the headlines may not shine as brightly, Vicksburg stands out as an exception. Living in a place where economic progress and job creation are unfolding is something to cherish, indeed. The future here shines radiant, doesn’t it?
