YMCA at Virginia Tech Expands Digital Horizons
The YMCA at Virginia Tech is utterly delighted to announce the expansion of its digital skilling programmes in Blacksburg, VA. This marvellous development is made possible by refurbished HP laptops, courtesy of the HP HOPE programme.
Enhancing Digital Opportunities
The refurbished laptops will play a critical role in powering EnginEquity Workshops. These workshops provide hands-on coding and robotics activities using a variety of platforms.
Expanding Access for All
The YMCA is committed to ensuring that minority and underprivileged families gain equal access to quality STEM education. This commitment nurtures a passion for technology and innovation among youth who might otherwise miss out on such opportunities.
International Outreach Efforts
With these laptops, connections with global partners will flourish, enabling the delivery of digital content to international families. The YMCA offers multilingual and culturally responsive programming, thus engaging a broader audience.
“At the YMCA, we observe daily how access to technology affects a young person’s ability to learn, work, and participate in society,” remarked Ryan Martin, CEO at the YMCA at Virginia Tech. He added that as the future of work evolves, these devices ensure young people acquire the digital skills, confidence, and experience needed to navigate an ever-changing world.
Community Integration
The laptops from HP HOPE, a global initiative towards digital equity, will be integrated into Digital Hubs, community-based programmes, and outreach efforts. By mingling device access with locally delivered programming, the YMCA at Virginia Tech aims to embrace more learners and bolster digital inclusion.
This initiative is part of a global collaboration between YMCA and HP, supporting digital skills via over 520 community digital hubs in 23 countries. The expanded programme will commence in February 2026, targeting youth, jobseekers, migrants, and underserved families.
Commitment to Impact
The YMCA is devoted to tracking outcomes, sharing stories, and celebrating the YMCA-HP partnership through co-branded outreach and community efforts.
