As Brittney Janssen, the industrious director of the Oldham County Chamber of Commerce, points out, it was the second-ever petrol station erected along Route 66. The Chamber, in conjunction with the city of Vega, has restored this landmark to its former glory.
The charismatic Janssen reveals, “Welcoming visitors with a dash of southern hospitality enriches their understanding of Route 66’s history and our quaint communities.” Her enthusiasm is palpable.
An absolute must-visit is the Milburn Price Museum. As Janssen enthuses, “Greg has outdone himself with his dedication to our history. He even offers Route 66 coin albums for collectors.”
As for culinary delights, a slice of pie at Mama Joe’s is heartily recommended by the locals, complementing a visit to the storied Magnolia Station. Volunteers busily contribute to the station’s upkeep, meeting from Monday through Thursday, ensuring its enduring allure.
Eagerly awaiting next year’s Centennial, the town is abuzz with anticipation. No visit is complete without a stop at the Dream Maker Station. It doubles as a delightful gift shop and boasts the iconic midpoint marker, precisely 1,139 miles from both Chicago and Los Angeles.
