A delightful resource hub has opened in north downtown Omaha. The Business Development Center by Metropolitan Community College aims to support entrepreneurs at every juncture.
Nestled in the heart of Millwork Commons, this initiative is committed to helping small businesses not only launch but flourish.
The Importance of Small Businesses in Nebraska
As Marla Ashe, the executive director, rightly points out, “99.1% of businesses in Nebraska are small.” Moreover, these businesses employ nearly half the state’s workforce. Such statistics underscore the timeliness of MCC’s efforts.
The Vision Behind the Centre
The Business Development Center at The Ashton offers myriad resources: free one-on-one business consulting, affordable classes, and expert-led workshops. This comprehensive suite aims to equip entrepreneurs with essential skills.
“We must provide impactful workforce skills, tools, and tips to sustain themselves,” Ashe stated.
Overcoming Entrepreneurial Challenges
MCC’s initiative seeks to eliminate the barriers hindering many entrepreneurs from embarking on their ventures. The college knows that small businesses often feel isolated, and the Trust MCC has garnered makes it a perfect ally.
Tailored Programmes for Entrepreneurs
A wealth of learning opportunities awaits. Short workshops on QuickBooks and legal fundamentals are complemented by a 10-week FastTrac programme. This culminates in a pitch competition with potential seed funding.
“This isn’t about going back to school,” Ashe explained. “It’s about acquiring the skills to reach your dreams.”
Strengthening Community Ties
Collaboration with local organisations, like the Greater Omaha Chamber and Sarpy County, bolsters MCC’s initiative. The goal is to continue expanding the hub into a dynamic epicentre for entrepreneurship.

Upcoming FastTrac Programme
