  • Praises Mandarin in Nigeria curriculum

Welcome, dear reader, to a tale of international camaraderie and educational progress. The Chinese government, in a rather commendable gesture, has expressed its delight at Nigeria’s decision to weave the Chinese tongue into its senior secondary school curriculum. Such an inclusion serves as a vital bridge, fortifying the friendship between China and Nigeria.

Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Yu Dunhai, shared these sentiments at a splendid gathering commemorating the 76th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. The envoy reiterated China’s resolve to deepen its cooperation with Nigeria across various economic sectors.

As one might be aware, China stands as the world’s chief economic force, contributing over 30% to the global economy. Ambassador Dunhai explained that aligning their policies with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope agenda in eight pivotal areas could elevate China-Nigeria relations to unprecedented heights.

Over the last half-century, China claims to have rescued over 800 million from the clutches of poverty—a phenomenon they label the ‘Chinese poverty alleviation miracle.’ Their journey advances now towards national rejuvenation through the lens of Chinese modernization.

The forthcoming year, 2025, though but a mere ripple in the long river of history, holds significance for China-Nigeria relations and their cooperation with Africa. Ambassador Dunhai was quick to mention several investments already generating tangible benefits for Nigerians.

The Lekki Deep Sea Port is heralded as Nigeria’s new ‘national gateway’ for global trade. Projections suggest it may generate $360 billion and create 170,000 jobs over the next 45 years. Equally noteworthy is the Abuja Water Supply Project, completed in June, promising clean water for nearly three million souls with its daily capacity of 480,000 cubic meters.

Plans are afoot for Chinese companies to collaborate with Nigeria to establish Africa’s first local insulin production facility. This enterprise could position Nigeria as a beacon of medical biotechnology on the continent.

Senator Babangida Hussaini, representing Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau at the festivities, extended congratulations to China on their national day. He extolled China’s ascent to prominence as a testament to resilience, determination, and visionary leadership—a beacon of hope and possibility.

Africa has witnessed a blossoming partnership between Nigeria and China over recent decades. This relationship, rooted in shared values, burgeoning trade, and investment across sectors like infrastructure, energy, and education, serves as a strategic partnership, yielding tangible benefits.

Adding a layer of symbolism, both nations mark their national celebrations on the same date: October 1st. This coincidence underscores a unique bond and shared aspirations of sovereignty, dignity, and progress. As legislative bodies, the commitment remains firm in providing transparency and sustainability for future collaborations.

In summation, the Nigeria-China relationship stands as a testament to mutual benefit, unity, and progressive collaboration. Let us watch as these two nations continue their dance of diplomacy and development, hand in hand.
