The Legacy of Jim Bernhard: A Business Titan
A Fond Farewell
Jim Bernhard, the distinguished business magnate of Baton Rouge, has passed away at 71. The community remembers him as a colossus in the world of business.
A Global Influence
“Jim was known internationally for his achievements and his constant pursuit of excellence,” remarked Lenny Lemoine, CEO of Lemoine, a company collaborating with Bernhard Capital Partners.
The Shaw Group and Bernhard Capital Partners
In 1987, Bernhard founded the Shaw Group, which ascended to Fortune 500 status and gained international recognition in the industrial sector. After selling the Shaw Group, he established Bernhard Capital Partners in 2014, further expanding his entrepreneurial reach.
Impacts on the Community
Chris Meyer, President of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, asserts that Bernhard’s influence will endure for generations.
“I believe his legacy will be his reinvestment in Baton Rouge for future generations,” Meyer noted.
Cultural Investment
Meyer highlighted the Shaw Center as a symbol of Bernhard’s community dedication. Opened in 2005, this venue has hosted some of the city’s most significant performances.
“He and the Shaw Group made a transformational gift, turning the building into a communal jewel,” Meyer explained.
A Legacy of Business Excellence
Bernhard’s roots were firmly planted in Louisiana. His ventures, like the Shaw Group, generated billions annually. Paige Carter, Chief Business Development Officer for Louisiana Economic Development, emphasized his exemplary mindset.
“His determination showed that excellence is attainable if we desire it,” Carter stated. “One can start, scale, and flourish in Louisiana.”
Nurturing Relationships
Lemoine, a long-time friend since college, cherished his close relationship with Bernhard.
“He advised and mentored me, always encouraging what Lemoine could achieve,” Lemoine recounted.
Friendship Through Business
While business can strain personal relationships, Bernhard’s supportive nature allowed their friendship to thrive.
“Our friendship grew over the years because of Jim’s mindset and encouragement,” Lemoine added.
Inspiring Future Generations
Carter reflected on Bernhard’s continuing influence, motivating others to start businesses and expand in Louisiana.
“His spirit inspires entrepreneurship and growth within the state,” she mentioned.
